@airic.z: Will packing your lunch for 10 years retire you by 40 👀? As an accountant, let’s see if it will. Would you live like this? #ukpersonalfinance #retireearly #frugalliving #frugal
If he was an actuary his starting salary would have been ~£50k - he was likely on £80k+ for most of his career! Plus working in financial services I imagine his pension contributions were generous from the company too

I appreciate this. There is so much stretching of the truth on social media. It’s click bait so that they get paid by the view. Packing their lunches helped them not overspend. They were then able to invest that savings and other savings so that they could retire. Asa retired person, I’m not sure exactly what I would have done with myself in my 40s had I retired. The fun stuff - like travel - costs money. Not to say I wouldn’t have wanted to have enough money to retire and continue to work on my terms, but this goal to retire at 40 … are they planning to kick the bucket at 60?

I’m not saying I’ll become a millionaire. But since I’ve started packing my lunches, I have a lot more money in savings. I do think it helps. Even if I won’t retire at 40

oh yeah man this is so cool I do this. I have a years food budget in my high interest savings account. then spend on a credit card not using my own money spreading the cost of debt over the longevity of the debt. therefore earning more interest and still contributing to pay into it. everytime the credit card is due I either lay it off or put it onto a longer transfer cardm this using debt longevity in my favour. I also use trading 212 card. 1.5% purchases to purchase gift cards for shopping purchases. couple that with the food larder I go to weekly which I can pick up a weeks worth of supplies for £7 a week. only have to go to Aldi for a few bits which costs me less than £15 a week maximum. 💪💪😁😁 trust me if thiers a loop hole somewhere I'll know about it 🤣🤣🤣

I’m curious what your goals are for retirement / financial freedom if you’d be inclined to share? I know FIRE is a big thing in the US but i see less UK creators talk about it :)

Yeah The Donegan’s have done a video on this to say the headlines and story miss out so much. Also it was Katie who was the actuary. I wouldn’t even say they were frugal, they just chose to spend on what they valued & enjoyed. And made their money work harder for them.
