absolutely agree!! did 4 months with a backpack and NEVER again, i loathe the sight of my backpack now and was so jealous of everyone with the backpack with wheels!

18 months into travelling and I couldn’t imagine not having a backpack honestly🥹 I think it massively depends on where you’re going! More built up/ touristy areas maybe! But I’ve been in situations where I’ve had to walk 20 minutes through knee high water🤣

I backpacked/travelled for 5 months, while there were times I wish I had a suitcase. I ABSOLUTELY needed to carry that thing. For example, when you’re in the Philippines and you have to walk 50 yards from the boat to shore… that’s a hell of a lot easier with something you can easily carry 😂

Yeah I think we must have had a completely different backpacking experience because there’s no way a suitcase could go through beaches, jungles, across rivers, 3 inch deep muddy terrains, did you just stay around resorts for 6 months I’m genuinely confused

wheeeled backpack is best bc you don’t have to carry it until desperate times but it easily squishes under the seats of the sleeper train!

Idk we had to jump out of boats 10 metres from shore with all our luggage. A backpack definitely came in handy in my experience!

If u have a SMALL backpack, a backpack is better. If u have a giant one u can barely carry just get a suitcase probably (only downside is rain and mud and not being able to get a grab bike w a suitcase)

I just did 6 months in SEA and I don’t know what I would’ve done if I traveled with a roller bag. So many times I had to climb up so many stairs, get on boats, go downstairs, walked on shitty roads that would’ve messed up the bag, I was able to bring my backpack and keep with me on buses and Ferries …. Etc…

Tbf you kinda do need one for the lockers and keeping ur bag in ur room a backpack can fit a lot more in a confined space. It was so annoying when someone had a suitcase in ur room because there was never anywhere to put it without it being in the way of anyone

I mean I have zero plans on going backpacking, but if I was to I think i’d want what you took cause then at least i’d have a choice as to which I could use. Like if I was stuck lugging around a suitcase i’d be thinking ‘why didn’t I bring a backpack’ and if i’d brought a backpack i’d have been thinking ‘why didn’t a bring a suitcase’

Do not bring a backpack!!! We had to buy suitcases in Singapore, our backpacks are somewhere in a hostel in Singapore 😂

Loads of busses I went on charged extra for suitcases. Plus if you’re walking to hostels as a lot or mini buses wouldn’t drop you off right outside then a backpack would be a nightmare as a lot of places don’t have proper pavements
