Someone trained an AI for more than 2,000 simulated hours to see if it could beat the human world record in Trackmania. The AI started with no real knowledge of the game and learned through trial and error, slowly improving its lap time over thousands of attempts. Eventually, it climbed from outside the global top 19 all the way to second place. But it still could not beat the human record. The world record, held by player Link, was 27.50 seconds. After all that training, the AI peaked at 27.55 seconds. Just 0.05 seconds short. The interesting part is that raw training time was not enough. The researcher still had to study human strategies and guide the AI toward a complex flip maneuver that top players already understood. So even after thousands of hours of practice, the AI still needed a little human knowledge to get close.
