I think your effort at a 3rd option is the right direction - we need modern philosophers who more fully grasp quantum mechanics - at which point the old deterministic models go out the window, and everything is not governed by free will or the observer effect but rather the god named randomness. and your bounds that you speak of is nothing more than a bell-shaped curve where probabilities are distributed yet randomness still rules.

I don't believe in free will. But I also don't follow the more extreme ideas that having no free will means people shouldn't be held accountable. I believe accountability is how people shift their internal experiences and beliefs in a way that can either prevent repeated behaviours or make them more likely. I believe this because I'm autistic and extremely anxious and there is things that I "should" have been able to do, and even wanted to do! But could not due to internal processes I had no ability to control. Shit, I couldn't hand in a resume at a place I wanted to work and had a fantastic relationship with the owners of... Because when I started moving towards the building with that intent, I stopped being able to breathe and experienced chest pains that made the world spin. That experience wasn't one of free will.
