You’re either forgettable… or someone people want on the next project. Here’s the difference 👇 1️⃣ How you show up to meetings ❌ “I’m just here to listen.” ✅ “I pulled together a few numbers before the meeting that might help the discussion - want me to share them?” One sentence takes you from observer to contributor. 2️⃣ How you deal with unclear work ❌ Stay quiet for 3 days, then say: “I wasn’t sure where to start.” ✅ On day one: “Here’s my understanding in three bullets. Am I missing anything?” In consulting, it’s better to be early and slightly wrong than late and completely silent. 3️⃣ How you talk about your work ❌ “I updated the deck.” ✅ “I restructured the story so it flows from problem > options > recommendation. Happy to tweak it before it goes to the client.” Don’t just describe the task. Explain the thinking behind it. 4️⃣ How you respond to feedback ❌ “Okay, got it.” ✅ “That’s really helpful. I’ll make the changes and send you a before/after so you can see what’s different.” You turn feedback into evidence that you learn quickly. 5️⃣ What people say when you’re not in the room ❌ “Yeah, they were fine.” ✅ “They made my life easier. If we’ve got headcount, we should bring them back.” Your goal isn’t to be perfect. It’s to make the decision to hire you back feel obvious.
