Strongly disagree with what this lady is saying. This is plain hypocrisy.
When people applied for the Skilled Worker route, the government clearly presented it as a settlement route. They told applicants the eligibility requirements, the visa fees, the NHS surcharge, the taxes they would pay, and that after five years of living and working legally in the UK they would be eligible to apply for ILR.
People made life-changing decisions based on those rules. They moved their families, built careers, paid taxes, and contributed to the economy in good faith.
Now, halfway through, the government is trying to change the goalposts. That is fundamentally unfair and, in my opinion, should be challenged in court.
Immigration rules have always changed over time, but historically the Home Office has introduced changes with a clear start date so new applicants know what rules apply to them. Existing applicants were generally assessed under the rules they entered under.
This time, the government seems to think it can rewrite the terms for people who have already committed years of their lives to this route. That sets a dangerous precedent and undermines trust in the entire immigration system.
