⁉️ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW THIS???⁉️ 🐾🐾Puppy penis hair!🐾🐾 So it’s something I’m often asked as I specialise in puppies. And having Lord Lenny Loo Loo at home, I thought I’d trim his little manhood guide hairs, as I normally do with puppy clients… However, I’ve then noticed his tummy hair is now crusty & stinky lol!!! So this had me wondering… Should this hair be trimmed or left au natural!?… “Some people feel compelled to trim male guide hairs (don’t know what the technical name is for this) because they either don’t like the way it looks or because after a dog pees, it can stay wet for a bit. Though most dogs quickly clean themselves, so it’s not an issue. The hair is long to help direct the pee to the ground. When you cut this hair off, the pee has a tendency to spray over the dog’s stomach instead. This can cause matting and irritated skin if not cleaned daily. Also be aware that if this hair grows back (sometimes it doesn’t) it grows back verrrry slowly. So you may think you’re solving one problem of not liking the way it looks or worrying about a drop of pee landing on the floor, but you’re actually creating a much larger potential health problem which requires more time and attention.” (Karenshanley.com) So in summary… step away from the puppy penis hair!!! It’s there for a reason… What I will try once Lenny is fully introduced and ok with the grooming process, I’ll trim both the penis guard hair AND the tummy hair, and I’ll see if that helps from a wee drip & hygeine perspective… Part 2 to come at a later date!!! Edge of your seat stuff!!! As always do not take scissors or clippers to your dog without adequate training!!! #notrainingnottrimming NB: A groomer would usually use a #10 blade for #10s rather than scissors for safety.
