The engine room, cargo sections, and even the living quarters are built as complete modules before being lifted into the dry dock and joined together with incredible precision. A friend working in shipbuilding told me that a 100,000-deadweight-ton vessel can go from the start of construction to delivery in as little as three months. Here's an interesting fact: China now builds more than half of the world's completed ships. In the first quarter of 2026, Chinese shipyards secured 84.9% of all new global shipbuilding orders. Total ship completions this year are expected to reach 60 million deadweight tons. To put that into perspective, that's roughly the weight scale of around 600 Ford-class aircraft carriers.
