There has been considerable discussion about what happened during the Joint Awami Action Committee march in London from Hyde Park to the Pakistan High Commission. It is important to place a few facts on the record. The march was overwhelmingly peaceful and attended by thousands of British Kashmiris who gathered to express concern over the ongoing situation in Azad Kashmir, call for an end to violence, and urge all parties to return to dialogue. During the march, a few individuals confronted and assaulted me. Their objection was on the overall coverage of the situation in Azad Kashmir by the Pakistani media, including Geo News and other TV channels. There was evident frustration among some protesters regarding media coverage of the events back home. The organisers, including members of the JAAC, acted promptly and responsibly to defuse the situation. It is equally important to emphasise that 99.9% of those attending the demonstration were entirely peaceful. They had gathered solely to express solidarity with the people of Azad Kashmir and to voice concern about the unfolding situation there. The actions of a few individuals should not be allowed to overshadow the peaceful conduct of the overwhelming majority. As a television journalist, a reporter does not determine the editorial policy of the organisation he/she works for. Editorial decisions are made by the newsroom. A reporter can only strive to report events professionally and accurately to the maximum extent.
