interesting that they have already started converting, when the change isn't supposed to be in effect until 2028. Which says to me they intend to stop before 2028. I'm pro physical media, and have only a handful of digital games, and those are ones only available as digital. I won't be continuing on with PS if they stop physical media entirely, which sucks, because I've been with them since ps1

ownership issues aside why would any buy a Playstation 6 over a pc, all a console does is play games, a pc can do so much other stuff on top of having multiple places I can purchase games from. people bought consoles because they were cheaper and had physical media,Sony has done away with both those things.

Die hard Sony fan but this is a last straw for me. I’ll be skipping the PS6 and beyond if there are no physical games. If that means I stop gaming altogether well, I have other interests and lots of older games to play for the rest of my life.

I’m hands down a Sony fanboy & this whole thing has me making a full list of all my downloaded games to buy the physical copies. I’m also not pre-ordering anything from here on out because I don’t have to “miss out” on games running out. Most pre order add-ons get turned into dlc later on.

Sony are not going to backtrack on anything. Did they backtrack on releasing their titles to Pc because of outrage? No. Even though the Pc market was very profitable, with estimates of over a billion dollars earned in the pc space, they still decided to stop putting their titles on Pc and nobody who owns a Pc has gone out to buy a Ps5. This is just the latest in online outrage and I guarantee you people won’t care by the time the Ps6 is announced. They’ll show it off and dangle the “GTA6 Ps6 upgrade” as a launch title and suddenly nobody will care that they don’t have physical disks anymore. Give it a couple months when GTA6 releases and I bet you no one will care then. The sales data shows that the majority of games were bought digitally so they already know 80% of their player base is going to continue to buy those games anyway. I’m not arguing against physical media, my point is Sony doesn’t care about those who do and are going to continue with this change regardless of the people who swear they’ll never buy their products again because there’s always people who don’t care and will buy them. They aren’t going to lose money

so they've been winding down operations for months but retailers and businesses partners found out the same time we did, I don't think they'll backtrack but this will try to offer a smooth landing (which won't work)?

👀 Ngl had every Playstation but idk looking like the PS5 might be my last PS kinda wanna dip into Xbox but I myself feel like it would be risky since nothing been said about the new console to my knowledge other than the rumors about it being all digital

the only way this reverses course is if enough people cancel their GTA 6 preorders. cancelling PSN is one thing, that's whatever. but if the most anticipated game of the decade fails to break records on release day, that will send a real message. it will never happen, of course.

First Xbox doing it is fine bc they could side load steam or windows on an Xbox console and allow gamers to buy else where. But Sony won’t do that. Mostly bc of greed. Sony will end up having to do something as laws begin to develop to protect customers

I strongly believe that they would not make this announcement if two factors are involved. one they already put in the deep plan to stop the manufacturing physical discs, which as you said is true. And the second we might see an announcement of the PlayStation 6 within the year or early next year and it will be digital only. basically they're so far deep into this plan there's no way they can back out
