@kayli.kiing: MORE TIPS & THOUGHTS 👇👇👇 First step: learn the safety components of whatever hobby you’re starting. The most important part is that you’re not putting yourself or others in danger. Watching a 2 minute video on something does not count. Educate yourself with books, blogs, local classes, mentors. Etc!! Second step: get over the fear of looking like a beginner (everyone goes through that phase, and if you’re following the first step correctly, then no one cares!!) I grew up tent/RV camping with my family in Nebraska, but that was the extent of my “outdoorsiness”. I bought my first pair of hiking shoes at 25. On my first backpacking trip I had a $20 rain jacket that got absolutely soaked and froze me to my core )(learned my lesson on how important proper gear is when you’re miles away from anyone). I was terrified of the auto-belays at the climbing gym for so long 😅 So with that ^ said, growth happens! I feel a world of a different person now than when I first started. I will say, my ex husband taught me to snowboard and learned backpacking and climbing alongside me! Having someone to learn those things with was an advantage and gave me an extra confidence boost. The ones I learned on my own I just carried fake confidence if I didn’t have it and that seemed to work just as well! The biggest barrier to entry can be the expensive gear. I got majority of my items used from REI re-supply, thrift stores, eBay, etc. It is important to have gear that will hold up in these hobbies, but that doesn’t mean you need to buy it brand new. felt inspired to do an updated version of this after seeing @Zoe & Kelby ‘s cute couple version 🥹🥹 (plus they are a HUGE reason so many of these are my hobbies still!!) #wildernessbackpacking #womenwhoclimb #backpackingadventures
