fyi hysterectomy (by itself) will not cure your endometriosis or pmdd. for endo you need to have an excision surgery by an endo specialist. excision by a SPECIALIST!! is the only thing that will get rid of endo! because any endometriomas outside of the uterus itself will continue to grow even if the uterus is out also for pmdd that is caused by ovulation which is driven by the ovaries. so unless you remove your ovaries (very rarely a good idea as it would put your into very dramatic early menopause and then you'd need hrt). a hysterectomy would only stop the period symptoms. for pmdd the better treatment is usually combined pill birth control to stop ovulation and/or an ssri (can be only for the luteal phase or all month) for the depression symtoms. although some bc that is good for pmdd is bad for endo and vice versa. also a lot of times pmdd isn't actually pmdd but rather a hormonal exacerbation of another mental condition like mdd, gad, adhd, etc. for that you'd need to go to a psychiatrist though this is not to say that you shouldn't get a hysterectomy. if you dont wan your uterus yeet it. but you should know what that will and won't cure for you. and if your obgyn just said "NO" meams 100% that you need a new one. this tyoe of convo should be a full discussion of risks benefits alternatives and explanations. and it shouldn't be coming from me a rando on the internet it should be coming from the dr. so yeah you need a new one. who will LISTEN to you. who will TALK to you good luck girl

I switched so many OB/GYNs because it was just one doctor after another where I didn’t feel 100% heard. I just went to a new surgeon in Boston and he was like “What do you want?” I was like, “a hysterectomy.” And he was like, “we’ll schedule a hysterectomy!” I walked out with a date! I’m 2 weeks post-op and I feel honestly a TON better

Good for you! I went to a specialist who also works with transgender patients because I knew she would believe me. It actually turned out she was a resident on my first endometriosis surgery 9 years prior and did all the surgical notes! She was so surprised when those past medical records came through and it was her 😂.

I had a hysterectomy for adenomyosis when I was 28. It definitely doesn’t fix endometriosis, because endo is around the pelvis. But she didn’t offer you excision surgery for endo, so you should still fire her. You need to look for an endometriosis excision specialist. They go in and cut out the endometriosis, they are also more likely to do a hysterectomy for other things.

If you can get to the metro Atlanta area, dr emily Shelton at tanner healthcare for women in Carrollton, ga!!!! I switched to her recently. I have adenomyosis, suspected endo, pmos, had a traumatic delivery and don’t want more kids. I had a whole spiel prepared to convince her of why I needed this and all I said was “I’m in pain & I don’t want any more babies” and before I could even start she said “okay! I’ll take it out” and that was that. Cannot recommend her enough!

nope I had a gyno tell me to get pregnant again to fix my endometriosis and heavy bleeding 10days straight and wore adult diapers. I told her I can't my vascular surgeon who did my DVT emergency surgery said your clot massive clot was from birth control I recommend you dont get pregnant or go back on bc I said oh say more cause I dont want anymore kids and ill get hysterectomy. the ob told me that the vascular surgeon didn't know what he was talking about 🙄. I got another appointment with my ob I have now who said its only gonna get worse when do you want surgery. 3 months later I got my surgery

After a 5 month period I walked into my gyno on May 12th and said “take it out or I’ll kms” my hysterectomy was June 18th and I feel great. She removed all the endo she could and burned the rest.

I had horrible pmdd for awhile, it turned out what i really needed was iron infusions cuz my ferritin level was so low that every cycle I had was just making me worse, more exhausted and more unstable. a hysterectomy very well may be the best option, cuz side effects from anti psychotics can be worse, esp if you have adhd, your brain may not tolerate those kinds of meds very well, i agree with keeping the psychiatrist and changing the OB cuz your not too young to do whatever it takes to care for yourself in whatever way is best for you.

In 2025 I saw a female gynecologist told her my issues she told me all I needed was birth control and ibuprofen. I had and IUD and pill form birth control and I didn’t stop bleeding for a year and half. May of 2026 I saw a male gynecologist and he said what I was going through was not normal and I asked for a hysterectomy and he approved it and had insurance cover it.

If you have trialed several SSRIs for your PMDD and haven’t had any improvement, you should look into gene testing for medication sensitivity. It can help guide prescribing as you can avoid medications that are not likely to work. Also, a hysterectomy will not help PMDD as it is standard of care to leave the ovaries . Going into menopause will lead to increased risk of heart disease, osteoporosis, sexual dysfunction , and several other issues which would happen if they would remove your ovaries as that’s the driver of PMDD. Nevermind the fact that menopause causes its own host of psychological conditions due to the changes in your hormones. If you have a Facebook , you should look into Nancy’s Nook. It is a longstanding endometriosis support group with library of resources and excision specialists across the country. If there’s a high concern for adenomyosis , then removing your uterus would be curative , endo and PMDD not at all. While you do your research, I encourage you to look into pelvic floor physical therapy and a low dose IUD as I feel like it’s helped with my PMDD and endo symptoms. I still have them, but it is significantly more manageable. I didn’t think it would help, but I got to a point where I needed relief. An added bonus is that I don’t have a real bleed it’s mostly crampy spotting.

I had to fire an OB for the same reason. I had a period that lasted five years. Meds were not working ablations would help for about a month and then we'd be right back at square one. I was severely anemic constantly exhausted spending a fortune on period products constantly sore down there and getting rashes like I was so so done I went into that appointment and just broke down sobbing and she was like "no, you're too young what if you want kids!" I was thirty married child free and even if I wanted kids I couldn't stop bleeding long enough to conceive. 🙄

It will be easier to find a new GYN than a new shrink. Reddit has groups for hysterectomies and childfree folk that include surgeons that won't argue with you.

The gynecologist I have basically gave me no choice, but to have a hysterectomy or stay as is, which is I have tiny fibroids. They say that are too small to remove, but I have abnormal bleeding that’s it.
