Every day, elderly persons, people with disabilities, caregivers, and vulnerable members of our communities are forced to stand in endless queues for hours without proper assistance or direction. Many arrive without knowing which queue to join or what documents they need, yet there is often no official available to guide them. Public services should be delivered with dignity, efficiency, and respect. The Constitution of the Republic of South Africa places an obligation on organs of state to uphold the values of accountable, responsive, and people-centred public administration. Every person has the right to have their dignity respected and protected and to receive public services that are fair and accessible. No one should have to endure unnecessary hardship simply to access the social assistance they are legally entitled to receive. We call on SASSA Roodepoort to urgently improve queue management, provide staff to assist and direct members of the public upon arrival, communicate clearly with beneficiaries, and ensure that the rights and dignity of every person are respected. Service delivery is not a privilege—it is a constitutional obligation. Our most vulnerable citizens deserve compassion, efficiency, and respect, not endless hours of uncertainty and frustration.
