24 year old guy here! I work a hard labor job putting in 8-12 inch water/sewer pipe in the ground all day in South Carolina heat. I make $15/hr. That’s around 575ish after taxes every week and we work 43 hour weeks. Do you think this is a livable wage? My mortgage is 1400 a month for a small 3b 2b house in the hood. NOT including electric/water/wifi/groceries. Just curious

what’s the point of working if you can’t LIVE off the time & effort put in at a full time job?

As a blue collar man who has worked retail and fast food. I’ll take the worst day I’ve experienced over an average day of retail or fast food. I’d deal with machinery f’ing up and the heat and cold over dealing with the general public

So 50 years ago it was perfectly acceptable for an entry-level worker to afford to buy a house, car and feed and cloth his family. But now a days hell now. Work harder and make less. Gotcha.

People think the jobs need to be paid more no cost of living needs to go down you can’t just keep pushing the goal back and say just make more money blah blah eventually not even doctors will make enough to live comfortably

any wage is a livable wage, you won't starve, if minimum wage isn't enough to live like you want find something making more money

Bad take. If McDonald workers had more money, they could hire more linemen work. They would keep you in business and then you can earn more money.

a lot of people are picking up these jobs as second jobs to their main jobs, so wouldn't that imply that they are hard workers cause they're willing to work the hours of 2 jobs

Brother people do deserve a live able wage. I’m sure there are some but most people aren’t asking for a six figure wage to be livable. Literally what does it hurt you for people to be able to afford to live?
