From what I can find, Thor Heyerdahl’s hypothesis was widely considered pseudoscience with no actual proof other than some coincidences in the naming of certain areas (some of which were anachronistic). Apparently his theory hasn’t been validated by any other historian, archaeologist, linguist, anthropologist, etc. Also, Snorri Sturlson was writing about pagan beliefs centuries after the Norse conversion to Christianity, so his writings shouldn’t be taken as a contemporary source.
