Closed-cell spray foam, open-cell spray foam, or fiberglass batts…
Which one are you choosing for your exterior walls, and why?
I’m curious to hear what you’d pick and more importantly, what your experience has been. 👇

None of them. Rockwool and a plastic vapor barrier which the manufacturer now recommends

Batt insulation. Wood MUST breathe or it molds and rots. I don’t think the increased r value is worth the damage it’s capable of in the long run.

What about rockwool?

100% Closed cell. All the hype about foam is horribly misleading because it always shows open cell on exterior which is a bad idea but people tend to go for the cheap alternative. Closed cell foam is hands down the best even over rockwool. No other insulation will give you 330-400 percent structural strength, 7.9R’s per inch and create an impermeable barrier.

A house has to breath, batts have been around forever. Foam seals a house up too tight.

Never spray foam. I’m starting to see too many issues with moisture. Not to mention off gassing.
