It’s just my husband and I and we have over $3000 of beef, chicken and fish in our freezer right now. I don’t understand why people find this so unbelievable. Also, ours isn’t kosher.

It drives me nuts to see when people give you a hard time on what you spend with YOUR money. I'm like your husband, Type A. I spend a lot of time stocking my pantry and freezer , especially the winter and holiday season. I'm the friend/neighbor that literally always has a cup of sugar or whatever else may be needed. In this economy, you've got to get the sales/bargins when you can.

Get a “govee”. It’s on Amazon. It goes in your freezer and notifies your app on your phone if the temp goes out of range. They are pretty inexpensive. Might be a good investment!

People will buy entire sides of beef and keep it in a deep freeze, this isn't even that crazy 😂 especially if you're stocking up when you can get a good price. I'm really sorry for your loss and the horrible mess you had to deal with. Was the freezer salvageable, or will you have to replace it?

Chef here- I have a large home deep freezer full of meat. I save and freeze water in empty gallon or larger size jugs(bleach, vinegar, milk) they have saved us during power outages. I have at least 10 or more, always in there. Take in and out as needed. Never leaving an empty space in the freezer. A full freezer will stay frozen longer.

Buying in bulk when there’s a sale and keeping a full freezer and/ or pantry enables you to buy when items are at the cheapest, instead of having to buy at peak prices, because you ran out.

I think people underestimate how much the food they have in their freezer is worth if you had to replace it all at once. I’m sorry this happened to you guys, it’s truly heartbreaking.

I could fit $3k of meat in my apt size fridge freezer and still have room left. Meat is outrageously expensive so instead I have a lot if ice cubes

we are a family of 6 and our stand up freezer is the best way I know to feed a big family. when I find things on sale I buy it ALL and freeze it. if ours went out we could lose 1 to 3K also depending on the time of year.
