@seadiaries.blue: Probably only a year old this Humpback whale recently washed ashore already dead. It is not a pleasant thing to see but it is a beautiful reminder of how far their population has come on the east coast of Australia. From only ~150 in 1962 to over 50,000 today, it is truly remarkable how well species can bounce back when protected and given time. Here’s the process that Tweed Council decided to remove the whale from the beach at Wooyung and tow it out 30 nautical miles with a tracker on it to monitor its movements while decomposing. #whaleseason #ocean #wildlifeplanet #earthfocus #natgeoyourshot
