Anderson Cooper’s podcast, All There Is, has been my unofficial therapist. I can’t recommend it enough

Somebody told me once the best way to honour your father after he’s passed is to take good care of his little girl. Give yourself time and space to grieve, do things that bring you joy, do things that remind you of him or that you would have done together. Know that it’s okay to cry on a random Tuesday because something reminded you of him. And know that it’s okay to not be the same you as before, because you become a different person when you lose a parent and that’s natural. I’m really sorry for your loss, and sorry you had to join the club at 28 ❤️I was 29 when I lost my dad, also very suddenly.

I lost my dad last year after a very short cancer diagnosis. He was my best friend. He was everything. I have missed him every single hour of every day since and I still cry almost every day. But... I have learned that joy and sadness coexist after a loss this big. After the initial shock wears off, you start doing things because of him and for him. My family has experienced so much joy this year because we've sought out experiences that he would love. My son caught a MLB ball at a Blue Jays game last year and I knew it was my dad finding joy for us. I started volunteering in places that remind me of him... I fill up a free food pantry in his community so I have an excuse to go back over there weekly, and it's become the favorite part of my week.
The grief will be like nothing you've ever lived through. Its a horrible club to be in. Feel all your feelings and cry as much as you need. He knew how much you lived him ❤️

I was 25 when my dad died, he’s been gone 15 years now. My mom and I were his caregivers. He’s never met my child, didn’t get to see my house, etc. Grief sucks.

I’m 31, I just lost my mom to cancer 2 weeks ago. They had told us 2-3 years and she passed away at 63 after an 8th month battle. I don’t have much advice right now but I want you to know you are not alone in your feelings, I’m sending so much love and healing your way ❤️there is no right or wrong way to grieve.

I lost my mom completely unexpectedly and tragically last May, a month before my bridal shower. Something I’ve learned is that you will always feel homesick for a time you can’t go back to, and it doesn’t get easier but it does get better. I’m so sorry you are going through this and joining a club no one wants to be apart of. But also, please celebrate all the hard things you DO accomplish. Looking back a year later. I am so proud of myself for all the things I never thought I could do without her.

I’m so sorry for your loss and your trauma at losing him so fast. I lost my dad at the same age. He has been gone for 20 years and I think of him every day. My kids know him through many stories about Poppa. We keep him alive. My advice is to be thankful to be able to say goodbye (many don’t get that chance). You will grieve not being able to care for him - but will eventually remember him NOT sick (which is such a blessing). I KNOW that my dad is a big part of who I am, thank he is with my and proud of all the stages of my life. I always say I’m grateful that I ‘got him as my dad’ (he could have been anyone else’s dad - but God gave him to me). He was wonderful. Sounds like your dad was the same. You are strong - but allow yourself the time to grieve. Be you. Make him proud always. God bless.

I am so so sorry Bree. I lost my dad at 16 and my mom at 23, who had a similar story to your dad, she fought terminal cancer for 2 months. I know when I’ve talked to you in the past you’ve been so so kind to me. You’re allowed to feel like this is unfair, because it is, you don’t deserve this at all. Don’t be afraid to lean on your family, friends, partner, I don’t know where I’d be without the people in my life, probably not here anymore. Therapy will be there when you’re ready, please don’t rush but I’ve done 4 different grief therapy programs and it’s changed my life. The main thing I learned was the best way to honour your loved one is to take care of yourself. It’s not easy and I still struggle. I wish I could help more but please if you need to cry or vent, DM me anytime 💕

I’m so sorry for your loss. "No one is finally dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away—until the clock he wound up winds down, until the wine she made has finished its ferment, until the crop they planted is harvested. The span of someone’s life, they say, is only the core of their actual existence.". Would love to hear your favourite stories about him.❤️❤️❤️

Hi. I lost my dad 16 years ago at 29 he was 53. I’m now 45. Just know your feelings are valid and you’re not crazy feeling the way you do. It will feel like you’re going crazy but know it’s normal. I’ve tried living for my dad doing some of the things he’d like to do it makes me feel still connected to him. I won’t lie I still cry. I still miss mine. It still hurts like it was yesterday but the pain changes over time. Hang in there. Sending you lots of love.

My mom died when I was 25. My mom was 60. She had scleroderma. My dad died when I was 42. From pancreatic cancer. I’m now 51. I think of them and miss them every single day. But I now smile when I think of them. It takes time to get there. But you will eventually. For now, just cry when you feel like it. It’s okay. We were all there once. And it sucks. 😞

I'm sending you so much love. Losing a dad in your 20s feels like you’ve lost your safety net before you were ready. I lost my dad at 25, he died by suicide. Even though the circumstances were different, the shock and the suddenness of life changing overnight is so hard to process. Please be gentle with yourself. You don’t have to figure it all out right now or even next year. One piece of advice I can give is to ignore anyone who tells you how long it should take to 'get over' it. You don't get over it, you just learn to carry it. Another thing I learned that I hope helps you when you are grieving with your family, remember that everyone is going to be in a different place at a different time. Please don't compare your pace to theirs, don't feel like you’re grieving too fast or too slow. There is no timeline for this, and there is no 'right' way to do it. Just be gentle with yourself and your process. Take all the space you need to feel whatever you need to feel! Sending you big hugs! 💗

I lost my mom when I was 10 to a short 6 month battle with cancer. my dad passed with early on set Alzheimer’s last year when I was 25 after battling it for 5 years. I honestly think there is no real way to grieve, you have to do what feels right for you, one thing I can say from experience is you can’t let it stop you from living your life. They would want you to be happy. But remember it always is okay to be sad, take those moments and feel the feelings, do things he loved, do everything you ever wanted them to be part of cause he will be there beside you in those moments you need him most. If you ever need anyone to talk too my dm’s are open ❤️

I lost my mom 8 months ago, at age 29 ❤️she was the glue of our family. She was 61. I see you, I feel you. The loss of a parent this young is so extremely robbing. I watch people go for coffee with their moms or go jogging and I secretly DESPISE them. They don’t know how lucky they are. Take the time to feel the feelings. Pour over the photos. Talk to your dad out loud about your day. Look for dimes?? ( look it up lol). Join a grief group to find people like you, when you’re ready to be seen and bear witness to the pain of others. Try not to judge the people in your life for where they’re at with grief. YOU are the expert of your own grief journey. Don’t forget it.

I lost my dad at 24 due to cancer (he was 49). My mom at 35 due to cancer (she was 59). There are no words that can help the grief but I make sure to do something fun every year for their birthdays and the day they pass.
