@calmmoneycoach: Income Splitting (BC) The tax break hiding in plain sight. One checkbox. Thousands a year. Almost nobody checks it. Income splitting isn't the hard part. Making sure it happened is. Canada One checkbox on the tax return, worth thousands a year, and it slips through more returns than you'd think. Pension income splitting is one election. Form T1032, signed by both of you. Up to 50 percent of eligible pension income moves onto your spouse's return, on paper only. No money actually moves. A BC couple, 2026. File normally and their tax is 59,915. Move the full split and it's 52,719. That's 7,196 a year, about 72,000 over 10 years. Her empty brackets do most of the work. Shrinking his OAS clawback does the rest. Software optimizes it for you, but automatic assumes somebody ran it. So know it exists. Confirm it's being done. Check it every year, the right percentage moves. Not 65 yet? That's what a spousal RRSP is for. The couples who miss this just never checked. Go check. Calculator and the Income Splitting guide are in the Circle community. Join at calmmoneycoach.ca.

Very helpful-thank you! I already contribute to a spousal RRSP as I have a defined benefit pension and my husband doesn’t. Sounds like it doesn’t matter that much though if we can split income anyway? He’s older and will likely retire first.
