I also say I like to crochet as a hobby, it’s kind of lame and cheap so it’s a respectable thing to mention at work 😅 a lot of coworkers will talk about having pets as their fun fact

The third is understandable for privacy reasons but as a people leader the other two actually make me kinda sad😕 I LOVE hearing about trips and things and my first thought when someone tells me about past internship or jobs is “hell yeah that’s so awesome”. I feel like you can never lead effectively if you don’t know your people.

Totally agree! For the initial fun facts/first impressions especially in front of groups/leadership, always play it way safe. Nothing that could be taken in a bragging/out of touch/unreliable/risk way. Those stories are best as stories during coffee chats once you’ve integrated into the team a bit more and have the appropriate time to explain!

My go to is always food or coffee related. Everyone loves food and drinks caffeine. I share my matcha and nescafe coffee recipes with my coworkers every morning

My fun fact used to be that I was fortunate enough to meet GRRM at a book signing at my college (shows that I’m a reader and seemed lowkey). Now, it’s that I crochet (again, lowkey and shows that I have a hobby). Calling back to college in my 20s seemed ok, but less so in my 30s.
