@kylescaffeination: If you want your espresso to taste better, you need to prep your puck. Puck prep is an essential part of pulling espresso and there are a few key tools that can aid you in this. Everyday I use a distributor and tamper to make sure my espresso pulls consistently. I also highly recommend WDT if you have a clumpy grinder to help break those apart. Making good espresso can be made much easier by using the correct tools for your setup. I really enjoy these puck prep tools from Laybird Coffee for their quality and usability. They are consistent and also have an incredible build quality with an all metal design. Tools Used from Laybird Coffee Trispin Coffee Distributor Tripress Power Tamper MagAttach Coffee Scale

I have a standard tamper that came with my gemilai. do you think getting the tri press tamper was a good move over the traditional tamper.?

i’m a superrr beginner and am looking into the baratza encore esp. i’m assuming the WDT tool would definitely be beneficial since it’s a more budget grinder, right?

If I get a 49mm portafilter will I have to get a matching size tamper and distributor? It’s not the industry standard so I don’t want to get the wrong one

I have the Ninja Luxe and have seen some people switch the portafilter to a bottomless one and also using a puck screen even though the instructions don’t require it. Do you have an opinion on this? Thanks! 🙂

If you have a spring loaded tamper, is it bad to tamp multiple times? Can it get “too tamped”?

No pro uses a distributor, consensus is it’s unnecessary and may actually be detrimental.

Hot take but I think every shop should use wdt. Most shops have their grinder near the espresso machine and the steam from the machine/humidity from outside can cause clumping in the grounds.
