My family wasn’t rich but I still got everything I needed and more as an only child. Not just the materialistic things but also the love and emotional attention that I got from my parents. Granted it could be a double edge sword, but as an adult now understand some people with big families didn’t have that communication and closeness with their families/parents and it made me realized how privileged I was.

I also can’t imagine having to forgive someone just because they’re close family and we need to ”keep the peace”. Something i’ve noticed about many people with siblings is that their relationships are extremely toxic.

As an only child…it sucked when my parents got sick, when they passed, it sucked when my child doesn’t have biological aunties/uncles, it sucks when I don’t have a big village. That said, siblings don’t guarantee a village either.
