I work in the industry. I can confirm that the market is not just flooded with older yachts the active charter market is also dramatically oversupplied. In Europe €millions was handed out during the COVID years. eg in Greece you could get a government grant of 50% of the cost price provided you held the yacht for 5 years and charter income is tax free ! The owners and skippers I know are saying this is the worst charter season they have known. The other significant problem is that in Greece there is not the harbour infrastructure for them. Its a pitched battle to find a space in tiny Grek harbours. So massive oversupply, inadequate infrastructure, and alot of debt waiting to go bad.

yeah supply and demand forces here are not at work..we ahould be able to pick up a boat for 10k. If there really was that much inventory (which i dont believe - there only a handful of charter comoanies in the VI) then prices should have dropped. i think theres insiders buyand and or destroying the supply

I’m amazed that they are fetching that much..If they drop the price to $100K or less - they will start to move. A mate of mine just bought a 44ft trader for $10 yes ten dollars.
