Some pieces are too important to risk. That's why the install has to be just as careful as the restoration. Thank you to everyone who engaged with the last post, your response to this Carlo Bugatti piece was incredible. It's a proof that even after nearly 150 years, these works still move people. I was originally brought onto this project by one of the best fine art logistics team at Uovo, who were tasked with delivering the cabinet to the residence. Because the piece had no numbered components and required a more interpretive approach to reassembly, one that relied on reading finish details, patina, and craftsmanship, they asked me to handle the install. But when I received it and evaluated its condition, it became clear that proper restoration would be best before reassembly. The scope evolved into a full restoration followed by an in-home install. This video shows that final stage: carefully assembling the piece inside the residence. Big thanks to my assistant @victorstumpf_for working in sync with me. Projects like this require constant clear communication and forethought to move in sync and protect every inch of the piece and environment. Also a big thank you to Uovo for their continued professionalism in safely transporting this work to and from my studio and recognizing the importance to bring in someone who can read further into the piece for this more delicate than normal install.
