I did this for 2 1/2 years in my self converted minivan after I retired. There’s always something you haven’t budgeted for, some expense you haven’t counted on, and where you will be going. Laws are becoming more strict in different states and localities. Crime rates vary so wildly in different cities. Even paying for campgrounds doesn’t mean you’ll be safe or happy. Solo people who are happiest in their own company stand a better chance

I’m retired and in a Honda CR-V. I have 2 dogs that travel with me and I love it. To me it’s freedom and peace nature. Now I’ve woke up with it 29* and still love it. I think it is what you make it. And it’s not for everyone but it is me..😉

I started doing it part time to save on travel to and from work. I definitely have the correct personality. my damn my car needs to get with the program because finding a comfy way to sleep has been an adventure itself

Definitely not an easy life. You have to give too much up. I certainly know I can't live without a toilet --so that alone makes it a "no" for me.

I think the hardest for me would be parking somewhere and being alone in the dark . I admire you for enjoying your life:)

Trial runs while you still have a stationary home. My dog and I did it for 2 months while my recently adult kids maintained the apartment. It was a test for me and my dog nomading… and a test for them at 18yo on paying bills, buying groceries, and cleaning house lol. I learned hot weather and a robust power supplies was gonna be something I needed to save up for. Also learned that I want to wait until I have an emergency fund and my kids frontal lobes develop before I travel more than 5 hours away 🤣

And I work full time. I’m not miserable but it’s about paying my stuff off and the Rent on the oregan coast is so expensive and I refuse to pay someone else’s mortgage. So I keep saving and I will be moving out of this area. Actually out of this state and live someplace that’s affordable.

I remember the claustrophobia and lack of ability to stretch out most of the time was the hardest part for me. That made it hard to find rest. Not just sleep. It's hard to show that in a shart clip.

Tiny living is HARD! I built a tiny home during the pandemic and if you get overstimulated easily I do not recommend it

I was so sure I was down for RV or van life. I went on a 10 day trip in an RV with a friend of mine. I was shocked but I hated it. It just wasn’t for me. I was so sure I would love it so much. It was big learning lessson for me.

I feel there is a difference between people needing to use their vehicles as shelter to survive and making the best out of whatever situation comes along, and the people that want to escape society but then misss the conveniences of having a home base, like a full kitchen or having a hot bath in a tub whenever.
