There are plenty of American athletes who fit the typical soccer frame playing other sports professionally. Many nfl wrs/cbs fall inside the average height of a professional soccer player (5’8”-6’) and exhibit elite athleticism. They can all jump, sprint, and cut at an elite level; however, they are incentivized to play football because of the popularity. We genuinely do have better athletes playing other sports. Obviously not every nba/nfl player would translate to soccer, but I think it’s quite clear that we could have better athletes on the soccer team if we cared more

I think there are plenty of nfl guys who would do great in soccer. Like obviously the 6 foot 8 tight end wouldn’t be a great soccer but all the running backs and wide receivers would be good

Every time I see people argue in favor of America's soccer system, it makes me groan. Soccer in America is a damn monopoly, everything is pay to play unless you get into the sport when you are 5-10 years old, the chances of you getting scouted by an academy or college are lower than your chances of getting drafted in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft, and you have a higher chance of becoming a starter in the NBA then getting a response from an Academy Team.

I’d say it’s less the superstars in each respective sports but the great athletes who aren’t great at that sport. The football player who is fast and has great footwork but can’t catch a ball or has small hands ultimately would’ve been playing soccer if club soccer wasn’t so expensive

Pay to play is a big component in my opinion, the best players probably never got a chance to begin with because they couldn’t afford to sign up for travel teams and pay to travel around the country
