Right. Revisionist history at work! Spiderman, X-Men, Ghost Rider, Hulk and Silver Surfer where the A tier then, but Marvel had rights issues. The Avengers were cheesy.

so many larpers in the comments. no iron man and even the avengers weren't popular back then. the most popular team were the x-men and the fantastic four, and most popular characters were spidey, wolverine and hulk. all the characters marvel sold to save themselves from bankrupt

You said it about RDJ and Evans, I think the MCU worked because they stumbled into ridiculously good actors who made it work. MCU post endgame and dcu haven’t quite got that

I wouldn’t call it a fluke. I would just say it was something new and never been done before. So everything felt refreshing and exciting for what’s to come. It’s hard to duplicate that feeling.

Peacemaker and Superman were both major successes, and Creature Commandos and the Suicide Squad also did well. DC has hit 4 out of 5 swings so far. I think they're doing fine.

I think part of the MCU early success was the b ana c tier heroes they used. To the general audience they were mostly blank slates. The DCU keeps going back to the well by using Superman, Batman, and occasionally Wonder Woman. Where's GL? Booster Gold? Get weird with it and stop resetting it lol

People don’t recognize that the MCU was ALWAYS shaky. Look at phase 1 and 2, like there’s good stuff but it’s rocky. Iron Man two Incredible Hulk. Even Thor and Captain America movies are just OK.

maybe not a fluke. but i think people are forgetting just how hard it was to get that universe off the ground. people did not like captain america and thor when they first came out. it wasn’t until that first avengers movie that people really got on board

I think James Gunn knows this, which is why his philosophy for creating a DCU started with making standalone movies that don't rely on being part of a franchise.

The MCU began with Ironman and ended with Ironman. The NEW MCU should've revolved around Spiderman but they're dropping the ball. Could've integrated a live action Miles Morales and all. The DCEU is just making movies with no connection or story board

until the MCU, the most recognizable characters from Marvel (for people who weren't into comic books) were Spider-Man and Hulk. that's pretty much it, from my recollection.
