A man sentenced to life in prison today for murdering a rival gang member and rapper in Tampa, Florida, condemned the gang politics that led to the shooting. Isaiah Chance, 23, told Judge Michelle Sisco he had a message for his hometown of Jacksonville that "it ain't worth it, boy." "The dissing, the beefing, the shooting. Like, for what? Like, for what?" Chance said."Like when you're sitting in your cell alone, cold. It's lonely as hell in that bit," he continued. "The only person there for you is your mother, and maybe like one friend, maybe" Chance said. A jury on May 8 convicted of Chance of first-degree murder and conspiracy to committee first-degree murder for the June 23, 2024, shooting death of Charles "Julio Foolio" Jones Jr., a Jacksonville rapper who was in Tampa celebrating his 26th birthday. Jones had been shot several times before, including a shooting in Texas linked to one of the guns used to kill him. Chance and his girlfriend, Alicia Andrews, traveled from Jacksonville to Tampa with Sean Gathright and cousins Rashad Murphy and Davion Murphy, and they followed Jones through the city before Gathright and the Murphys shot him to death with a Glock 9 mm and two AR-15s as he sat in his Dodge Charger outside a hotel near the University of South Florida. A jury in May rejected a death penalty recommendation for the men and instead recommended they be sentenced to life in prison without parole. A separate jury convicted Andrews of manslaughter. She was sentenced to 15 years in prison on May 22. #law #crime #court
