Use the wood as a form and pour a mud curb. Much stronger. I quit using wood in curbs many years ago. Not worth the risk

All we use is wooden curbs and there’s no issues as long as you properly waterproof it

Those screws are fine for this, they are exterior grade and made for us in masonry. I personally would use tapcons but hey
