I have been struggling to find rest. With the changing of the seasons, my body is asking to rest, to slow down. With a new home, an acreage, relocating our business, and with Christmas on the way; there is always something to do. I so badly want to create; I am inspired by my new surroundings after all. But I have to remind myself that creating takes energy; and in order for energy to flow from me, I must first fill myself up. I have been finding rest in the forest on daily walks. Deep inhales of pine, damp grass, and salt air. On my walks, I try to notice things. I try to learn the forest around me, remembering each branch and stone, so that I will notice when it changes. I listen to the different birds and the way the wind makes the trees creak. I watch the light alter the landscape at the different times of day I manage to escape my office. if I find something particularly inspiring, sometimes I take my phone out to capture it. But mostly, I keep my phone hidden away. in this fast-paced world we live in, there is often the pressure to perform, to accomplish, to be productive. Even walks have turned into ‘hitting your daily step count.’ When I am finding rest in the forest, I try to avoid any urgency, to meander, to ‘waste time’… as if time could be wasted this way. and the irony may be that from this unproductiveness, something inspired and productive has come. From my noticing and wandering, I found this beautiful corner that I knew I wanted to create something in. My dresses are always just the thing when I am inspired, and this little antique basket certainly helped too. how do you find rest? PS, if you are as inspired by the dress as I am, if you use ‘Cate’ at checkout you will receive an additional 5% off on Son de Flor’s sale 🫶🏻 🌿 cottagecore aesthetic, forest bathing, slow living, fairies, forestcore, dark academia aesthetic, cottage living, homestead, Nova Scotia living, winter dress
