The nurse is right. She’s in need of a paracentesis or port for drainage to be placed. Yes the liver will do this. Sadly.

One of my best friends from college died of cirrhosis. She was a picture of health, very disciplined. She drank…often, more than I even realized. Please take care of yourself. Her light is missed here on earth

that nurse handled that extremely well. I see patients that are having a hard time dealing with the reality of the situation all too often, and not too take away from your pain you're going through in this moment because she recognized it and didn't take it personally. THAT is a NURSE. she helped you in your darkest time and was with you whether you wanted her or not or whether you believed in her or not. thank goodness you're okay today, I hope you go back and thank that nurse because we really don't get it very often, and when we do we remember it for the rest of our lives❤️❤️❤️

Didn’t have this happen but after a C-section. I had terrible gas bubbles and the first nurse said there was nothing they could do about it and didn’t explain why I was in so much pain. I knew I was getting full breaths of air but it was excruciating. They checked my oxygen levels and through tears I stated “I’m getting enough air but it feels like a rock on my chest” I called my mom because they continued to dismiss me . My older sister called up the maternity ward & lit in to them (with out my knowledge- I was mad at her) a concerned nurse came in & sd your family called and said we’re not doing anything I stated that isn’t what I told them and I was just scared . Finally an experienced nurse came in with muscle relaxer and a medicine to help with the gas in my chest. It was two hours of sheer fear not knowing what was happening when all it would have taken was a simple explanation

Answer- your liver makes Albumin. Albumin is like the magnet that keeps fluid in your veins and keeps it going through your body to your kidneys to urinate out. When in liver failure you dont have enough albumin so you get fluid build up in tissue/abdomen/lungs. It often happen very fast.

This was me April of 2025, I was also in liver failure extremely jaundiced with ascites, I thought I was going to die at 23… my mom died when I was 19 and I picked up a bottle instead of coping, I’m a year and for months sober now, my liver will never recover I will need a transplant at some point but I am so glad I am alive still the nurses who treated me like a person while I was hospitalized for 14 days are one of the reasons I am still here❤️I’m proud of you for getting sober and I wish you so much healing❤️🩹
