How do you pull out entirely? My 401(k) will only allow for hardship withdrawals and you have to be able to substantiate the hardship if audited. For what it’s worth I’m not at the age where I can withdraw at all.

They charge a 10% IRS early withdrawal penalty for taking it out before 59½, plus whatever you take out counts as income and is reported on your taxes, so you can owe even more for that based on your annual income. It can change you to a higher tax bracket.

I just transferred my 401k to a Roth IRA. The penalty was ALOT of $ to just cash out the 401K. 🤷♀️Not sure if it makes a difference. I asked for monthly distributions moving forward.

I believe this!!! The Fortune 500 company I work for made it automatic for our 401k to be converted into a Roth IRA by the end of August.
