Anyone saying, "Just keep or buy an older car," is about 15 years behind the eight ball. Cash for Clunkers in 2009, disappearing parts manufacturers, discontinued OEM support, insurance companies totaling vehicles that could have been repaired, E15 fuel, and shrinking junkyards have all made keeping older cars on the road harder and more expensive. And if everyone follows your advice, demand for older vehicles will soar, pushing prices even higher and pricing even more people out of the market. This didn't happen overnight. It's been building for years, and most people are only just starting to notice. We're all frogs in a pot.
