I have an almost 4 year old and 2 year old and we just like, put them to bed? Sometimes they listen to the tonie box, look at books or play with their teddies. If they were upset obviously we’d go to them but usually 7pm is our own time every night, I can’t imagine spending 1h+ putting them to bed. It’s ok to have some boundaries as a parent.

Yep I do this with audiobooks!! Or I just hide my phone on the side of the bed with AirPods and doom scroll lol either way - some decompress time

I do this too! But I have felt guilty about it because I feel like I should be lapping up the cuddles with them and taking it all in. So thanks for normalising it 🥰

I wonder if by you reading and getting some time to yourself will create a relaxed vibe and help them get to sleep sooner? This is such a great idea 🫶🏼

I’m so glad this has worked for you. This was us too. I will suggest once your kids are old enough to listen to stories we got a Tonie box for our 3 year old and the rule is it doesn’t go on until we leave and she puts herself to bed every night. I honestly couldn’t have imagined she would be able to go to sleep on her own. But here we are. Dont get me wrong she wakes during the night but I don’t have the frustration of wasting hours of my day trying to get a child to sleep. Might be worth a try next!

I do this but have a headphone in and listen on audible. Definitely changed how I feel about bedtime and I think now because I’m actually calm & happy to just be in there whilst they fall asleep and I’m not getting frustrated they’re falling asleep faster.

I did this to, my sons 6 now and it got to point where I started to feel that annoyance and the time ticking by again.
We've just implemented "I'll check on you in two minutes" a horrible two weeks to start but now I check on him once and don't need to again because his asleep.
It's saved my sanity and I finally get some me time in the afternoons.

Some of my favourite books this year were Wild Dark Shore, The Names, The Bright Years and The Heir Apparent! What books have you enjoyed most?

My daughter is the same way and always has been and she’s 5, she still needs me next to her to fall asleep. For the longest time I’ve put a headphone in and listened to a podcast and I put her yoto player on with some stories and she falls to sleep and I listen to my podcast

I do something similar but my 2 year old wants to cuddle to sleep. Do you just sit next to their bed?

Yes! I have to sit in the rocking chair while they go to sleep, but taking the kindle in with me and leaving the phone out has made it much more enjoyable

My kindle and my audible have been my saving grace for 2.5 years. Our daughter takes an hour or more, and she’s mostly quiet but just takes time to fall asleep and needs us there. I just inhaled My Husbands Wife by Alice Feeney in 2 days thanks to those long bedtimes, I feel so rested and happy to be reading!

Thank you for your honesty on how they are actually acting too. A lot of people are not this honest, and it makes me feel normal hearing you talk about putting them to bed!

Filipa Maia—Wildest Dream Life :
I don’t do this now because both of my kids put themselves to sleep independently. But I did it when my second was a newborn and probably until he was 5 or 6 months old and I had to rock him to sleep. I would prop up my kindle on my dresser and sit on my exercise ball rocking him and reading. At night and for all his naps, I read so many books throughout those months!

I do this now with my toddler who I lie with to fall asleep. Or I put my headphones on and listen to a book. Makes the whole process way more enjoyable!
