The universe does not even need a cause. The problem with the Kalam cosmological argument is that it assumes the rules of the universe (rules of causality) existed in the state in which the universe did not exist, but there is no reason for that to be true, nor any proof of it

We don’t know if the universe must have had a beginning science doesn’t say it has to have a beginning general relativity predicts that at t0 spacetime reaches a singularity but the singularity doesn’t necessarily mean physical beginning rather it is a sign that relativity is being pushed beyond limits where it applies

time is part of the universe, therefore it didnt necessarily have a start. if you say it has a start, you say there’s a time before the universe existed, while that’s impossible because time is not greater than the universe.
