@jakekocherhans: Yessss labs can be helpful, but you can tell a LOT about someone’s gut based on how their symptoms are presenting. If you wake up bloated before you even eat, there’s a REALLY good chance you’ve got slow motility or backed up stool. If your bloating comes on pretty immediately after eating and it’s specifically in the upper abdomen, think low stomach emptying or delayed gastric emptying. If your bloating comes on 1-3 hours after eating, especially if it’s triggered by high FODMAP foods, think SIBO or some sort of overgrowth. If you feel worse eating high protein meals, think low stomach acid. If you feel worse eating high fat meals, think poor bile flow or enzyme production. There’s so many of these little clues you can pick up by reallyyyy paying attention to how someone’s symptoms show up and what triggers them. Some practitioners rely so heavily on lab testing, that they forget to look at the person in front of them and truly listen to what they’re saying. Stool tests and breath tests are helpful tools, but they’re not black & white. I’ve found stool testing helpful enough to continue using it with our clients, but it can miss things. It’s not always 100% accurate. You’ve gotta be able to look at all the clues available to you instead of simply relying on a piece of paper to give you all the answers.

Lulu :
I started having low stomach acid symptoms after starting Protonix. I took 40mg 1x per day for 3 weeks and was told to discontinue due to symptoms after 2 weeks in on medication.

This is insightful and thank you for the share. But are there and other possibilities as for each case scenario it is not all the points.. and I have done check ups.. do you have any suggestions on how I can figure it out?
