@threadofeverything: Jesus ends the lost sheep with a line we skip every time: more joy over one who repents than over ninety-nine righteous who need no repentance (Luke 15:7). Who has ever needed no repentance? Nobody. None is righteous, no, not one (Romans 3). So the ninety-nine can't be good people who stayed. And Scripture already calls us the sheep, all of us, straying (Isaiah 53:6; Psalm 119:176; Ezekiel 34; Matthew 15:24). God already said he'd come looking himself, "I will seek the lost" (Ezek 34:16), which is the same thing Jesus says out loud, "the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost" (Luke 19:10). So who are the ninety-nine that never fell? The oldest reading of the Church, Irenaeus in the second century and Gregory the Great around the year six hundred, hears the hundred as one flock of everything made to know God: the angels and us. The uncountable host that never left (Dan 7:10; Luke 2:13), and the one kind that wandered, humanity, in Adam. The shepherd leaves the ninety-nine and goes down into the dark after the one, and that going-down is the incarnation. Part one of three: the Son in the sheep, the Spirit in the coin, the Father in the prodigal. #LostSheep #Luke15 #Parables #BibleStudy #ChristianTikTok

Thank you God. Please pick up my child and carry her. Find her. Rescue her. Heal her. She is yours. Please bring her home. May the myriad of angels rejoice at her homecoming. In the mighty name of Jesus

It's interesting with the image of the shepherd carrying the sheep that some people still think they can be responsible for their own salvation. If we continue this metaphor, the faith of the sheep is essentially just the will to live based on the hope that the shepherd holds it. Every human is the sheep already on the shepherd's shoulders. If the sheep has faith it doesn't give up its life. If the sheep doesn't trust or recognize the shepherd, it will resist and fall back into peril (hardening of heart). If the sheep determines that it can continue on its own, rescuing itself, it will break loose from the shepherd's grip, though the shepherd is always willing and trying to help. The shepherd just wants us all to come home, we just have to trust Him.

This broke me. I had to listen to it more than once to really grasp it then think that during those three days in the grave, he also went down to Hades to get the keys and those that had died in Christ before him.

What a wonderful, mighty, and loving God we serve! To think how much he loved just little old me. To think that while the same God who created the sun, moon, and stars also created me knowing I would wonder off from him. To look down from the cross and ask the Father to forgive me, because I did not know what I was doing. What matchless love! I fall on my knees in awe. Thank you friend for the beautiful reminder of how much we are loved.💗🐑✝️

And for some of us, He had to come find us more than once because we lost our way multiple times and didn’t know how to get back to Him. Maybe it was just me 😬

“And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” We, individually and collectively, are always the ones struggling the hardest to stay stuck in the brambles. CS Lewis had a great metaphor about an animal stuck in a trap. Love your work. God bless.
