If you watch the entire game, you'll notice that Egypt's tactics didn't allow Messi to receive the ball in the midfield. It wasn't until he shifted his position from the center to the right that he became more involved, resulting in two g/a from that side.

Last time I saw a team man marked him was Athletic Club in a copa final, he ended up scoring two goals and an assist and one of those goals being one of the best ones in his career, Mourinho approach with his cage method is probably the best approach a manager has had on him, mind you Messi had not unlock his passing ability yet when Mourinho used that tactic on him, so it probably wouldn't work now
