@meghannmcuniff: DNA belonging to Tyler Robinson’s lover and very likely Robinson himself was on a towel and screwdriver linked to the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, according to test results presented in court today (Tuesday, July 7). Jennifer Faumuina, a sergeant with the Utah Department of Public Safety, testified about test results from DNA samples from two items: a screwdriver found on the roof of the building where prosecutors say Robinson fired the fatal shot, and a towel that was wrapped around a Mauser rifle found in a wooded area near the Utah Valley University campus. Robinson, 23, is accused of shooting Kirk with the rifle then dumping it. Faumuina said male DNA on the towel originated from two people, one of whom is Lance Twiggs, Robinson’s transsexual roommate and lover who was transitioning from male to female. Twiggs’ DNA also was on the screwdriver. The DNA results for the towel “are 1.7 otillion times more likely if Twiggs and T. Robinson are contributors than if Twiggs and an unknown unrelated person are contributors,” Faumuina testified. The DNA results for the screwdriver “are 30 quintillion times more likely if Twiggs and T. Robinson are contributors than if Twiggs and an unknown unrelated person are contributors.” Faumuina said Twiggs is “Lance Twiggs. He was a roommate of Mr. Tyler Robinson.” “And do you know if Lance Twiggs's DNA was obtained for the for comparison in this test?” asked Ryan McBride, chief of the General Crimes Section for the Utah County Attorney's Office. “Yes, it was,” Faumuina answered. “And how was that DNA obtained?” McBride asked. “It was obtained by law enforcement officers, and was that by a buccal swab?” McBride asked. “Yes,” Faumuina answered. “What is a buccal swab?” McBride asked. “A buccal swab is basically like a Q-tip or a swab that will just place in someone's mouth and just scrub the inside of their mouth to obtain the cells, and then that Q-tip is then packaged and sent to the lab for testing and comparison,” Faumuina answered. “And was the defendant Tyler Robinson's DNA also collected in the same manner?” McBride asked. “Yes, it was,” Faumuina answered. You can watch all testimony on my YouTube channel and Facebook page. The hearing continues Wednesday (July 8) at 1 p.m. CST in Provo. #law #crime #court
