@hrbrowngoes: Tomonoura, which is a port town located in Fukuyama (easily accessible from the Hiroshima city center), was Hayao Miyazaki’s inspiration for the film Ponyo! It is said that he fell in love with the town & spent several months living there when preparing for the movie. From Fukuyama station you can hop on the Tomotetsu bus and be there in 30 minutes.
