My theory is that the cat in the hat is just a the personification of a child’s imagination, which is why in Seussical the Musical the musical about stuff from dr Seuss has the cat in the hat as almost this orchestrator and the who child JoJo is dreaming of a world with someone like him in it, Horton the elephant and the cat in the hat is just giving the audience a tour of his imagination. In the cat in the hat movie you can see the kids being wanting to have fun so they imagine doing all of these fun things with the cat in the hat but really it’s just all in their head. Another good theory is that the cat in the hat is the same creature as Mary poppins or pennywise but feeds off of mischief, which is very plausible because the cat in the hat always shows up when someone is being prevented from having fun, in the movie the two kids are told to not make a mess of the house and to not have fun and goof around and then the cat shows up, in Seussical the musical the exact same thing happens where jojo is being told not to use his imagination but then the cat in the hat shows up and takes him on this adventure about Horton the elephant
