@theartcoach: Tap the link in my bio to start the drawing drills course ! I think one of the most empowering things you can learn as an artist is that almost every drawing starts with a simple shape. This volcano isn’t where the drawing begins. It begins with two cones. One cone becomes the mountain. The other, flipped upside down, becomes the massive plume of smoke erupting into the sky. From there, everything else is just refinement. You modify the forms, add texture, establish the light, and suddenly a landscape appears. That’s why I spend so much time teaching simplified shapes. When you understand the forms underneath, you’re no longer memorizing how to draw volcanoes. You’re learning a way of thinking that lets you draw almost anything from your imagination.
