@beeroseinchina: I was wrong about China… China's capital hasn't always been in Beijing. It has moved several times over the centuries, but today I'm talking about Xi'an, formerly known as Chang'an, which served as the capital for 13 different dynasties.   During the Tang Dynasty, it was one of the greatest cities the world has ever seen. But the craziest part to me? There were so many foreigners, all thanks to the Silk Road.   The more I learn about China as an adult, the more I realize I was done a great disservice growing up in school.   China has an incredible history, full of periods of prosperity, peace, thriving arts, futuristic architecture, and more. Every Chinese dynasty had its own dress code. Social hierarchy determined what colors people could wear, and commoners were generally forbidden from wearing silk.
