If your child came home from a theme park or a long day outside with red, blotchy legs like this, do not panic. But do not ignore it either. This is called Exercise Induced Vasculitis, also known as Disney Rash. It happens when kids walk or play outside for long periods in the heat. Small blood vessels in the lower legs become inflamed and show up as a red rash on the calves and shins, sometimes with swelling or mild itching. It looks scary. In most cases it is not dangerous. But it should still be checked to rule out other causes. Here is what to do at home while you head in: 👉 Cool the legs with a damp washcloth or ice pack 👉 Rest with legs elevated 👉 Apply gentle anti-itch cream if needed 👉 Keep them hydrated Come in if the rash is spreading fast, your child has a fever, or you are just not sure.
