A tongue-tie and body tension made it hard for him to keep his tongue up on the roof of his mouth. The tongue has a huge influence on how wide the palate and upper airway forms! If the tongue isn't suctioned to the roof of the mouth, it can cause the palate to grow narrow and vaulted upward (instead of a wide U shape) making less room for teeth to grow in. A vaulted palate makes less room for the air you breathe to come through the nose and airway at the back of the throat (we're supposed to breath through our nose). My palate is a good example of a narrow, vaulted palate. 🙃 Luckily, my teeth grew in mostly straight (no braces). But my tongue does not fit in my mouth! You can see it overflows onto my teeth when I do clicks. ✨️Making sure the tongue rests up on the palate from infancy through childhood has a huge impact into adulthood.
