This is such a tired argument! Every sport in the US costs money to play, yet we’re the greatest at most of them… look at the actual underlying issues instead

Corporations need to start sponsoring teams to cover these costs.

Every sport in the US is pay to play, even the ones we are world class at. It’s unfortunately the reality over here. The amount of competition from other sports is the main reason we are struggling with youth development. Also we aren’t actually behind in youth development anymore. we have more talent than ever at big clubs. Plus mls academies are getting good and are free.

This is the weakest argument. How about the fact we keep trying to make it about not winning or losing at the younger ages. Ask Jude Bellingham or Messi if they cared if they won or lost when they were kids.

Outside of the World Cup there is an extremely low demand for soccer relative to football, basketball, baseball, and MMA in the US. This will not change soon but if it did then US soccer would improve.

Even with the thousand kids playing we should be better. The problem is the coaches. They don' t know the game enough. clubs just recruit and don' r develop the kids

Is he saying that coaches are overpaid over there? I know it’s certainly the case that they’re underpaid over here in England so it’s an odd comparison to be making, no?

MLS Next and ECNL are all money grabs. You’re basically stuck in MLS league.

You need more teams with functioning academies that can actually save these families from paying these ridiculous prices

It’s supply and demand. If you broaden the entry points and invest in creating more coaches then they’ll be cheaper at lower levels.

I’m at 2k for my kid with kit, fees, and registration and haven’t touched a ball since tryouts. By the time the spring is over I’ll be 6-7k and we play regular travel. Not ecnl not ga. Price doubles with those.

Our mls clubs don’t even operate in the green, only profit sharing keeps most afloat. Paying coaches is our biggest problem
