Why is at always a community college stats class?!😭 In mine she would lock the door 30 seconds before class started, so if you weren’t there early you were absent. She only allowed two absences. I woke up late one day and opened my laptop and dropped the class bc I wasn’t going to make in time anyways 😅

for the record, the first day being syllabus day and just explaining how the class works is not a community college thing, its everywhere. there are exceptions obviously, but syllabus day is the norm pretty much everywhere

I had a professor who was like this and one time I got up as is class ENDED and he was still lecturing. He told me he needed to see me after class and I said you can email me. I have to go to work.

My husband is a neuroscientist. Whenever I ask questions about what he’s working on and he’ll explain. If I ask him to explain it in a different way or repeat it he always does. He always says if someone can’t explain it in a different way they don’t understand the topic completely.

Yeah absolutely not, im paying to be in tha class, they may be an authority in the class but they are not an authority over me. I woulda stood up, walked out, dropped the class, and made a complaint.

Fun fact: many colleges, if not most, do not require professors to have any kind of teaching certification/education/experience, they just have to know the field they’re leading classes for very well. So yes, almost all professors are objectively really good at whatever it is they’re “teaching”, but that does not automatically equate to them being good at actually TEACHING it! It’s mildly infuriating imo😅

People who can do well usually don’t teach well. It takes a special kinda person. Good teachers are usually mid doers (which is good! Thats what we need). My dad tried teaching me calculus, one of his instructions was to visualize the curve when looking at the equation cause it makes it easier to solve.. dude i cant translate an equation into a visual. Idk what it looks like??? He was like oh well i can just always see it in my head 😐. It was fun but unhelpful 😂

as a teacher and especially a math teacher, it should be common sense that people have questions and you AS A TEACHER should be able to explain it more to the student if they need more help.

Yeah that’s a no for me. I am paying to be in that class. If I need a sick day or need to pee, I’m gonna go, and if I get a bad grade because I have a teacher who refuses to be helpful when I am asking for clarification, I’d be reporting that immediately. Again, I am paying to be there, she works for me at that point.

Looking back, I am pissed about how many classes I had where I paid money to have someone teach me, and then in turn, they basically told me to go learn it myself.

I dropped an English class in community college because the teacher took it way too seriously. I could have done well, but I just straight up didn't want to put that much effort into it, and I told him that when I dropped the class. I was like, you're a great person and everything but you're doing too much.
