In scenes straight out of an action movie, a former martial arts master is seen trying to land a spinning heel kick on a police officer pursuing him on a beach. Timothy Allen Wegert was being chased by police in Virginia Beach over the Fourth of July weekend when he attempted to use his combat skills to seemingly avoid arrest. But the kick didn’t connect, and he got floored by police and arrested. Officers had been chasing the 33-year-old around 2.20am on 5 July when the incident – which has since gone viral – occurred. As one officer closed in on Mr Wegert, the karate master, attempted to kick him. Ducking the kick, the officer then tackled Mr Wegert to the sand as other officers piled on top. Mr Wegert, a former master at UpLevel Martial Arts in Charlottesville, Virginia, has been charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer, along with other misdemeanour counts, including disorderly conduct.
