@thrivewithcandice: 3 things for ✨iron maxxing✨👇🏻 1. heme iron: animal-sources of iron are better absorbed in the small intestine (~30% VS 3-5% for non-heme iron aka plant-based sources) 2. vitamin C: pairing an iron source with vitamin C significantly enhances the absorption of iron + vitamin C blocks counteracts anti-nutrients like phytates (in legumes & grains) that block iron absorption 3. no dairy: the calcium in dairy acts as an inhibitor of iron uptake in the gut (because iron and calcium compete for the same pathways for absorption in the gut) It’s recommended to space out dairy consumption and iron-rich meals by 2-3h! 👉🏻 Ferritin levels above 30 ng/mL is generally sufficient to avoid iron deficiency although aiming for levels between 45-150 ng/mL for females is ideal! MINI MEATBALL PASTA: ✨you only need a few ingredients ✨comes together in ~20min ✨it tastes delicious ✨you can peel a big batch to have a few times a week Prep your mini meatballs: I added finely chopped green onion & cilantro, seasoning, salt & pepper to them In a pan cook them ~90% of the way Pour in bone broth to cover the meatballs Add in your pasta of choice Bring to a simmer, cover with a lid and let the pasta cook for the duration that it needs.
